Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to the skin to lower its pH level, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, exfoliates and stimulates new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother, more radiant complexion.

Treatment Expectations

Beautiful skin doesn’t happen overnight, and treatments take time to show results. A single chemical peel can provide the immediate effect of bright and radiant skin; however, more significant results in treating texture issues, fine lines and inflamed acne could take several treatments and loyalty to the appropriate at-home skincare regimen.

Using at-home skincare products consistently and as directed will help you achieve optimal results. Read our FAQ’s

 FAQs

  • Peeling of the dead skin layers can be macroscopic, meaning you can see the peeling, or it can be microscopic, meaning peeling is occurring on a cellular level but the skin is not visually flaking. Therefore, you can have an effective chemical peel without actually seeing your skin peeling

  • Peeling will generally start 48 to 72 hours after your treatment and can last 2 to 5 days. It is very important not to pick off peeling skin. It is also important to note not all clients will experience the same amount of peeling

  • Strenuous exercise and heavy sweating should be avoided for 2 to 3 days. How long you avoid exercise will vary depending on the peel performed. Your Crave skincare practitioner will discuss all of this with you at the time of your appointment.

  • Chemical peels should be avoided if any of the following conditions are present:

    • Active cold sores, herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated

    • Wounded or sunburned skin

    • Accutane use within the last year

    • Recent history chemotherapy or radiation therapy

    • One week before the peel avoid waxing, electrolysis, deploritory creams and laser hair removal.

    • Two to three days before the peel discontinue using any prescription topicals such as Retin-A, Differin or Tazorac, as well as any products containing retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) or benzoyl peroxide.

    • Patients who have had any medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures (such as laser treatments, cosmetic fillers or other surgical procedures) should wait until skin sensitivity has completely resolved before receiving a peel.
