Which is Better? CoolSculpting vs UltraShape vs VelaShape

Changing your diet, taking those sworn-to-work supplements, amping up your workout routine—you’ve done all the things, but your trouble spots just will not budge. Does this sound familiar?

You may be doing everything you can to shape up or slim down, but sometimes you need a little extra help to trim that stubborn fat, smooth cellulite, or tighten up loose skin. Body shaping treatments may be just the solution you’ve been looking for.

Not all body shaping treatments are created equally, however, which is why we a Crave Beauty Lab are giving you a deep dive to help you determine which treatment is the best for you.

In this blog, we outline two types of body shaping treatments —CoolSculpting, Ultrashape, and Velashape— and explore which technique is best for you, and breaking down your treatment options for reducing fat, smoothing skin, and tightening areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a treatment that uses freezing temperatures to break down fat cells in a procedure called cryolipolysis. It is designed to target your most resistant fat, with the cold temperatures damaging fat cells, but not affecting the other cells in your body. Undergoing cryolipolysis does not damage your skin or other underlying tissue.

This procedure works by placing a roll of fat between two panels and then cooling it to a freezing temperature. During your CoolSculpting treatment, your practitioner vacuums the skin above your target area into the applicator that cools the fat cells. Your body naturally excretes these dead fat cells through your liver in the weeks following your treatment.

After your procedure, it will take between 4 and 6 months for the treated fat cells to leave your body. Results may begin to visibility show in as little as a few weeks or may take as long as 3 months to become fully visible after the last treatment.

What is UltraShape®?

UltraShape is the first—and the only FDA-cleared—body shaping procedure to use pulsed ultrasound energy to target your most stubborn fat. UltraShape is virtually painless and gently uses ultrasound energy to destroy the walls of your fat cells, releasing your triglycerides (the type of fat that is stored in your fat cells). These triglycerides are then processed by your liver and eliminated from your body naturally. In the meantime, your surrounding tissue, nerves, and muscles are left completely unharmed.

When we compare the results of UltraShape to CoolSculpting, UltraShape comes out on top with up to 32% fat reduction versus CoolSculpting’s 24%. Results can also be seen in as little as 3 weeks.

What is VelaShape®?

VelaShape is a non-invasive body shaping treatment that helps reduce your cellulite quickly while contouring, shaping, and slimming your body. Some people have described the VelaShape treatment as feeling similar to getting a deep tissue massage.

VelaShape uses bipolar radiofrequency, infrared light, and tissue mobilization to treat your cellulite, and shape, contour, and slim your body. Basically, it heats and shrinks the fat cells in your problem areas, which creates a smoother appearance on your skin. As an added bonus, VelaShape helps improve blood circulation and enhances lymphatic drainage.

Velashape treatments are typically short and can require up to 3 to 6 sessions spaced a week apart for ideal results.

Which is Better?

CoolSculpting, UltraShape, and VelaShape are all non-invasive procedures, meaning they are non-surgical procedures and don’t require cuts, needles, or anesthetic. However, undergoing these procedures are all a different experience.

The CoolSculpting procedure involves a lot of pinching or pulling of the skin as it is vacuumed into the applicator, which can be painful. The after-treatment recovery time for CoolSculpting is also a little longer because the skin above the treatment area will remain frozen for the day. Some patients have also experienced redness, stinging, or soreness in the treated areas.

CoolSculpting patients have also experienced irregular results, like shelving (Shelving is when there is a visible line of demarcation, a junction of treated vs. non-treated area).

At Crave Beauty Lab we use only the best in body shaping technology—UltraShape and VelaShape.

UltraShape uses ultrasound technology to target fat. The specialist will apply gel to the targeted area and place a belt around the abdomen, placing the transducer over the selected treatment area which delivers focused, pulsed ultrasound energy - stressing fat cell membranes and causing them to rupture. Patients can typically go about their daily activities as soon as the treatment is over, with some patients in rare cases reporting bruising or blisters following the procedure.

VelaShape uses suction to bring the skin closer to the energy source using a handheld device, combined with massage to help relax and stretch stiff fibrous bands under the skin that cause cellulite. The infrared and RF energies heat the patient’s skin - which tightens the tissue and makes fat cells shrink - tightening existing dermal collagen fibres and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, building more firmness and elasticity over time. Patients who receive VelaShape treatments can immediately return to their normal day-to-day activities, as there is no required downtime.
